A photonics team that left the lab to fix what industry could not.
CareGlance was founded in Milan in 2019 by Maria Chiara Ubaldi and Eugenio Iannone — scientists and engineers who had spent decades in industrial photonics at companies including Pirelli and Cisco Systems.

They saw the same problem everywhere: industrial processes running blind. No real-time data on what was happening inside the weld, the print, the coat. Post-process inspection catching failures that were already too late to fix.
So they built the sensor that did not exist: a fully customized, real-time SS-OCT system engineered from scratch for industrial use. Hardware, signal processing, reconstruction algorithm — every piece developed in-house.
Today the company operates from two sites in Italy, holds three patent families granted in the EU, and is backed by CDP Venture Capital, LIFTT, and Eureka Venture.

As CEO of CareGlance S.r.l., she leads the development of industrial OCT systems based on Swept Source technology, overseeing R&D, quality control, and investment strategy. 30+ international publications, a contribution to a Springer–Verlag volume in Applied Physics, and three international patents.

Part of the team that first developed modern fiber-optic systems at Pirelli, and of the Cisco management team when optical networking was implemented. Italian Laurea in Electronic Engineering. 100+ peer-reviewed papers, four engineering books for McGraw-Hill and Taylor & Francis, and author or co-author of nine international patent families.
End-to-end solutions for the M2M market, merging telecommunications and energy. Focus on management and control of renewable production plants, energy efficiency, and Smart Cities. A turnkey approach built on strong R&D competences and deep field expertise.
PhD in physics (University of Florence, 2015) on experimental setups for quantum simulation with ultracold atoms. PhD and post-doc at LENS, CNR-INO, and ICFO. Brings expertise in optics, photonics, and quantum physics with a cross-disciplinary, creative approach.
Degree in Business Organization and 10+ years of experience in administrative roles, with recent training in personnel management. Leads the full recruitment cycle — from job description to interview and onboarding — designs training programs, and supports management in drafting company policies, with a focus on personnel well-being and work–life balance.
Joined CareGlance in March 2025. Former entrepreneur with extensive experience in secretarial work, administration, and organizing corporate and private events. Keeps every detail in check across numerous corporate events — without ever losing sight of the budget.
R&D engineer working on the OCT interferometer and laser system. PhD in atomic physics at École Normale Supérieure Paris (LKB), studying entanglement in cold-atom systems. Post-doc in the biophotonics group at LENS, Florence. Brings expertise in optics, photonics, lasers, and cross-disciplinary engineering.
Master's in Engineering Physics with a year of experience in spectroscopy laboratories at Politecnico di Milano. Three years contributing to CareGlance on the design and implementation of laser sources and optical setups — taking on new technical challenges from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
Master's in Mathematical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, with international study experience at NTNU (Norway) and UAM (Spain). Strong skills in computational science and algorithm design, focused on the development and optimization of the image reconstruction algorithm.
